Become an amateur archeologist ! Coins from the time of Caesar and Alexander the Great buried for nearly 2000 years and now available for you to clean and discover their unique history. The Roman empire lasted nearly 1000 years and in that time millions of coins were minted in Rome and in the far away mints of Thessalonica, Antioch and Heralea. It is amazing the feeling you get when you clean a coin and discover the emperor that it was minted for centuries ago! You will find yourself learning some latin and researching emperors and finding much about the intrigue in the royal courts of Rome. |

How are the coins found? In ancient times there were no real banks, people simply hid their valuables in the ground in leather purses or sometimes in clay jars for safekeeping. And there they have remained and forgotten until the technology of metal detection in the last 20 years. |
Are the coins difficult to clean? In many cases these coins need a good soaking in distilled water and a light scrubbing with a soft brass brush to begin to remove the centuries of dirt. Many coins have some visible details to spark your interest even before you begin cleaning! |

Are valuable coins ever found? Yes...unique and rare issues can be found in uncleaned coin lots, but usually are the later emperors. The most valuable coin in one of my lots was very tiny 10mm of Johannes that was resold on eBay for $565! Most of course are more common coins...but you never know! |
I see many auctions saying Gold found, is it true? A recent survey of the larger sellers found only one or two confirmed instances of gold coins and both were lower grade coins. Its a simple fact that gold and silver coins are easily found by the diggers and sorted away for separate sales. |
